About forms in TurboTax

Every tax form must pass at least six checkpoints to get from the taxing agency to TurboTax. How long this takes can vary, and some years are trickier than others. Hurricane Katrina, for example, delayed tax forms for the entire country because the IRS changed Form 1040 to include new tax laws for hurricane relief.

Here's how the process works. First, the agency must approve a final version of each form and make sure it reflects current tax law. Then it has to approve a version designed especially for computer software.

On the TurboTax side, we test each form to ensure accurate calculations. Then the agency must approve the version we produce for our program.

We appreciate your patience with this process. Be sure to update TurboTax to get the final versions of all the tax forms you need to file your return.
